We have just heard of the passing of Bishop John Reid, of Sydney, Australia, at the age of 87.

John served as Bishop of South Sydney from 1972-1993, and as Chair of the International Council of Interserve from 1986 – 1998. After retiring, John and his wife Alison also served for two years with UMN/CMS in Nepal – Alison as a counsellor and John encouraging and training church leaders, UMN appointees and more. Many ex-UMNers will remember with gratitude the support and encouragement they received from him. 

John remained keenly interested in UMN and its affairs; he delivered the sermon at the thanksgiving service for UMN’s 50th Anniversary in Sydney in 2004. 

His funeral will be held on Thursday 14 January 2016 at St Andrew’s Cathedral, George Street Sydney. Our thoughts and prayers are with Alison and his family.
