Journey to Healing

After getting married at 16 and losing her first baby, Laxmi felt abandoned emotionally when her husband remarried. Still, she continued living with her husband, his second wife and their children. Despite her dedication to farming, the produce was insufficient to sustain her family year-round.

“About two years ago, while working on the farm, I unexpectedly experienced vaginal bleeding. This incident took me by surprise, as I was going through menopause at the time. Prior to this, I had experienced several infections but was unable to seek medical treatment due to shyness and limited financial resources,” Laxmi shared.

When the bleeding persisted, she consulted a nurse who diagnosed her with uterine prolapse, provided initial treatment, and advised her to seek further medical treatment at a higher centre. However, financial constraints prevented Laxmi from doing so, causing her condition to gradually worsen.

Laxmi later had the chance to attend a screening camp organised by CEAD Nepal and UMN in collaboration with the Rural Municipality. There, doctors confirmed the need for surgery. The project supported her and her caretaker with travel expenses, encouraging her to undergo the procedure. Upon returning home, her health steadily improved and she has now fully recovered from the condition.
