Tansen Hospital turns 60!
Tansen Hospital turns 60!

United Mission Hospital Tansen celebrated its 60th birthday on Wednesday June 11 with the presence of almost 500 people. The hospital remembered this important event in two different ways: a rally and a formal programme. About two hundred people marched around the streets of Tansen bazaar with the 60th banner clad in cultural and formal outfits. This included guests, people from the management committee, staff and the local people. The formal programme at the hospital premises started with songs and poems followed by speech from important guests.

The presence of several honorable members of the Constituent Assembly, political parties and other government sectors was a great encouragement to all present.  Everybody was delighted to have the presence of Marjory Foyle (93 years old), the first lady doctor of the hospital and the chief guest of the programme. She shared her deep passion to work in Nepal as well as her ups and downs during her tenure at the hospital. Hospital Director Rachel Karrach shared her experience and vision for the future of United Mission Hospital. Hospital Services Office Director Dr. Olak Jirel also focused on the unique working culture and a good team work as the key factor for the hospital’s success. Honorable member of the Constituent Assembly Som Prasad Pandey, also had encouraging words to say on the long term establishment of the hospital. Similarly, Dr. Mark Galpin, shared about the significant changes in the hospital, increase in size and medical care as well as the values of love and service which is the Christian identity of the hospital.  He emphasised on the hospital’s motto ‘We Serve, Jesus Heals’.
This was a wonderful celebration to look back and praise God for the establishment of the hospital in 1954 and to commit the coming days into His hands again.
