NCDWS, (Nepal Chelibeti Disable Women Society) UMN partner in Sunsari
organised a-one-day interaction programme on December 3 which is the
International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This programme also
included the ongoing 16-day campaign on gender violence. The chief guest
of the event was DSP (Deputy Superintendant of Police) Binod Sharma who
gave a very inspiring speech on the issues discussed. DSP Sharma
promised to deal with the issues of gender violence in Itahari. He also
shared how he has been successful in banning open sex trade from Itahari
city. He is very keen to make the police stations in Itahari ‘disable friendly’.
Chairperson of Sunsari Bar Association
Krishna Dahal and woman activist Manjita Upadhyaya also spoke on the
present state and challenges of ‘gender violence’ in Itahari, which
was appreciated by all.
