The Community Health Programme of UMN has helped build water tanks and basins for 20 schools in various parts of Nepal benefitting around 3,500 students and teachers. Besides the hardware support, we have engaged the schools in handwashing campaigns too.
The project’s current focus is to deliver awareness on hand washing and proper use of toilet coupled with tippy taps, which are appropriate for rural areas where there is no running water facility. UMN’s work in improving WASH facilities in schools is mainly focused in Doti, Rupandehi and Sunsari with some work in Mugu and Bajhang as well. Several bio-sand filters have also been installed in the schools in Sunsari which is now benefitting around 2000 students and teachers.
