We are very sad to report the passing away of Mrs. Betty Barclay on Friday, 20 October, 2017. She was 92. She developed pulmonary edema and had been in high care at a nursing home for the last nine years.
Howard and Betty Barclay came to Nepal to join UMN in 1960 and served in Amp Pipal, Gorkha. Howard was a teacher and Project Director and Betty, who was a nurse, worked part time at the dispensary (before the hospital was built). From 1980, they served as Personnel Counsellors, including a period of 9 months in Jumla, and then later returned to UMN headquarters in 1984 where Howard served as UMN Executive Director until 1990.
Her son John Barclay reports that Betty’s last minutes were very wonderful and peaceful with her family and after Betty died almost everyone from the wider family were able to be together. The funeral will be at Kew Baptist Church at 10.30am on Friday, 27 October.
We have heard that Howard (also 92) was also seriously ill last week and was taken to the hospital. He is back home now and is improving. Our prayers and thoughts are with the family. We praise God for Betty’s many years of service in Nepal with UMN.
