We haven’t still forgotten the horrors of the flood that hit the Tarai regions of Nepal a few months ago. We were back last week in Musahar village of Pratappur Rural Municipality in Rupandehi with our winterisation programme. One hundred and seventy nine family members from 42 households (including four single women and two people with disability) received warm clothes, blankets, mattresses, bed-sheets and pillows. This settlement is one of the flood-affected villages and are among the poorest in the entire ward. The Musahars are also an extremely marginalised group in the society as they fall very low in the caste hierarchy.
The programme was organised by Bikalpa, UMN’s partner, in coordination with Pratappur Rural Municipality. The distribution was carried out in the presence of Rural Municipality (RM) representatives along with ward level chairperson and chief administrative officer of the RM.
