How would it be for your child to go to school and learn in a language that is not yours? Frustrating and not fun right?
We have good news to share from UMN. Grade 1 students from 14 schools in Mugu are learning in their mother tongue ‘Katkath’ and also have textbooks translated in their own language, thanks to UMN prioritising mother tongue education for young learners. The translation work for Grade 2 textbooks is finished and will soon be published.
UMN also completed a similar mother tongue education project in Rukum where 25 schools are now using textbooks in Kham Magar language. The local government is continuing to run that programme.
