A project agreement has been recently signed between UMN and RCN (Restoration Centre for Nepal), a Christian NGO that closely work with people vulnerable to HIV/AIDS infection and people living with AIDS. UMN has been supporting RCN for a number of years in building its capacity.
“This project aims to give female sex workers a better choice for income. They will be hired and trained to run a bakery which will give them a skill and an income, and more over a new life”, says Dinesh, coordinator of RCN.
Most sex workers opt for this business because of economic hardship. It also makes them vulnerable to HIV/AIDS infection which is growing in Nepal at an alarming rate. Dinesh further added,” We will start with six girls, and eventually, I would like these girls to own the bakery and expand the business.”
