When it comes to nurturing the environment, a small initiative can with time bring ripple effects. This year’s World Environment day’s theme “Beat Plastic Pollution,” reminds us to take a look at the burning global environment issues and pitch in any action to help reduce the burden of plastic pollution and other harmful impacts.
UMN Rupandehi cluster also celebrated the World Environment day yesterday with its partners.
Village sanitation programme in all 12 wards of the municipality was organised by Nepal Avinash Social Service Organization (NASSO) with Devdaha Municipality and the community groups.
A rally with the slogan “Beat Plastic Pollution,” where 60 people participated was organised by another partner Nepal Abinash Social Service Organisation (NASSO). The rally was chaired by Surya Kant Sigdel, Secretary of Industry Tourism Forest and Environment of Province 5.
More than 200 participants including students, School Management Committee, Parents Teachers Association and teachers were also involved in a rally and sanitation programme organised by partner Isai Samaj Nawalparasi. Bikalpa our other partner also collected plastic wastes around the village.
To not just limit it to a one-day event, Rupandehi Cluster has vouched to minimise the use of plastic bags. They have produced low-cost cotton bags for all partner staff to replace the plastic shopping bags.
