Bill Gould

With sadness, we report the death of Dr Bill Gould, who passed away on Sunday 13 July, 2014. Dr Bill and his wife Margaret came to Nepal in 1965, and Bill served as a doctor at Tansen for many years. He served as Health Services Director from 1993 until leaving Nepal in 1998.

Bill helped set up the Hospitals Endowment Fund in Nepal, and later the UMN Hospital Endowment Trust in the UK.

Our deepest condolences to Margaret and the family.

Margaret McIlhenny

UMN is sad to announce the death of Mrs Margaret McIlhenny. Margaret passed away on 16 July after a long illness.

Margaret and her husband Alan came to Nepal in January 1982. Their first appointment was to Pokhara, where Alan served as a teacher trainer. In 1986, they moved to Kathmandu to set up a secondary study centre for the children of expatriate personnel – a joint venture between UMN and INF. The result was the Kathmandu International Study Centre.

In 1992, Margaret and Alan left Nepal to return to Northern Ireland. KISC continued to grow and develop, adding senior secondary classes in 1998 and primary classes in 2006. It is now an independent organisation under the auspices of HDCS.

Catherine Mumaw

In a third loss last week, Dr Catherine Mumaw passed away in Harrisonburg, Virginia, on 17 July. Dr Mumaw came to Nepal in 1995, and helped set up the Education Faculty at the new Kathmandu University. Even after leaving Nepal in 1999, she returned frequently to support post-graduate students. Her strong commitment to high standards and educational development in Nepal will be remembered by all she worked with.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Alan and the rest of the family.
