Two months of Skilled Birth Attendant (SBA) training for nursing staff under UMN’s Pro-ACT Project concluded on 18 May 2022. The nine nursing staff were from the health posts and community health centres of Bhume and Putha Rural Municipalities of Rukum East District. The training was conducted in coordination with the Health Training Centre of Lumbini Province in Bhairahawa.
The trainees are now certified as skilled birth attendants and are well equipped to provide basic obstetric care services. Having trained human resources will enable local health facilities to provide safer delivery services. Pregnant women in the area will have services nearer to their homes, reducing risks for the mother and baby during childbirth as well as the costs and time of travel during labour.
