Prayer Points – December 7
Prayer Points – December 7
In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, UMN invites all people of prayer to set aside time daily to ask for God’s help in our work in Nepal. The time suggested for UMN staff is 3.00 pm. For our friends around the world, we ask that you join us either at the equivalent time in your country of 3 pm Nepal time, or whenever you are able. Many have found setting a daily alarm on their phone a useful reminder.
Thank you for your fellowship in prayer.
Joel Hafvenstein

“Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, his love endures for ever… Let the one who is wise heed these things and ponder the loving deeds of the Lord.”
(Psalm 107v1 & 43)
We encourage everyone who is praying for UMN not only to raise our requests but to listen to God on UMN’s behalf. Please take time to read this Bible verse slowly to yourself. Pause and ask God to speak through His Word. Then read it slowly again. Settle and calm your mind before you pray.
Major Matters for Prayer
  • Praise God – the Norwegian government has made a major grant to the hospitals, which should arrive this week.  This grant will cover most of our September-December costs in both Tansen and Okhaldhunga.  While nothing is certain during the pandemic (which is still escalating in Nepal), this brings us to a point where our hospital reserves should be enough to bring us through the Nepali calendar year without cuts to services or staff.  We thank our Lord for blessings such as this.

  • Please pray that the year closes with a generous response to UMN’s Christmas appeal, so that the hospital reserves are not overly depleted in what may be only Year One of a continuing health crisis.

  • In Tansen pray for the completion of the hospital registration process by the province, and that the expats will have work permits and visas renewed quickly and be able to return to work.
We are grateful that most staff infected with Covid have now recovered.

  • We ask special prayer for the Rukum Cluster Team. They are moving office from Rukum West to Rukumkot in Rukum East. Please pray for Team Leader Ramesh Thing and all his team who will be working hard to move equipment and settle into a new environment. This change has been in planning for some time and will place the team closer to officials in Rukum East where our work is focused.

  • As the pandemic continues to spread its uncertainties, fear, and danger please pray about problems of food supply in many isolated areas, livelihood and employment insecurity, educational disruption for children and young people, growing maternal deaths, and a health system under severe pressure.
