Meanwhile in Rukum East, UMN and its partner NPAF observed World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10. A series of impactful events aimed at raising awareness and promoting mental health was organized to encourage open conversation and to prevent suicide. Through these programmes, UMN and its partners reinforced their commitment to reducing stigma and creating a supportive environment for those struggling with mental health issues.
The celebration featured:
A rally in the community in collaboration with district and local government stakeholders where RM chairperson, health workers, community members, and students marched in Bhume RM with banners and slogans, and placards to spread the message that suicide is preventable.
Interaction meetings with health mother groups were held in various communities of Bhume and Putha Uttarganga RM, providing a platform for open discussions on mental health and suicide challenges, the importance of early intervention, psychosocial counseling, and available mental health services.
Radio jingles on suicide prevention were also aired on local FM, ensuring that key messages on mental health and suicide prevention and that support is accessible even in the most remote areas. During the event, suicide prevention related leaflets were distributed.
I really appreciate the efforts of UMN and N-PAF for taking that initiative. I find this program very effective and little more people get aware about the suicide. We need to talk about suicide, mental health like depression, stress, anxiety and all rather than hiding it. I love that work. Keep doing such work it reflects a good impression among all Nepalese citizens.
