In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, UMN invites all people of prayer to set aside time daily to ask for God’s help in our work in Nepal. The time suggested for UMN staff is 3.00 pm. For our friends around the world, we ask that you join us either at the equivalent time in your country of 3 pm Nepal time, or whenever you are able. Many have found setting a daily alarm on their phone a useful reminder.
Thank you for your fellowship in prayer.
Joel Hafvenstein
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have what we asked of himâ€.
1 John 5v14-15
We encourage everyone who is praying for UMN not only to raise our requests but to listen to God on UMN’s behalf. Please take time to read this Bible verse slowly to yourself. Pause and ask God to speak through His Word. Then read it slowly again. Settle and calm your mind before you pray.
Major Matters for Prayer
Monsoon rains should have ended by now – but last week has seen extensive flooding both on the Terai and in the hills. Over 100 people have died in floods and landslides, 2,000+ homes have been inundated and over 1,000 families displaced. Roads have been closed, mobile phone, electricity and internet services cut, some airports have been closed. As always the poorest of the poor suffer most, but also businesses. Please pray that this rain will end and especially that the rice harvest will not be destroyed.
Some of our UMN Staff have been affected by flooding and are unable to travel to the cluster offices or to project locations. Ask the Lord for safety for all who need to travel.
Tansen Mission Hospital has remained extremely busy over the Desain holidays and the COVID numbers are going up again. There were 14 patients in isolation last week. Plans are moving ahead for the waste-water project and there have been some good meetings with which Ed Kramer was involved. Please pray that all the necessary authorisation signatures will be provided for the project to receive a Rotary global grant.
Four new families have now arrived in Tansen: three from Sweden and a couple from the USA. We also have a short-term surgeon (also from the USA) helping for two months who arrived just a few days ago. Pray for them all as they settle in.
Pray for the members of the Programme Partner Team (PPT) and Programme Support Team (PST) who are undergoing ‘Resilience Training’ this week. Pray also for Bishal who has just taken over as leader of PPT. This is a new role for him and it will take time to become familiar with these responsibilities.
Please pray for Bishnu Sapkota our Finance Team Leader and his family as they grieve the loss of his beloved mother yesterday. May our Lord give His comfort and strength to go through the ritual.
