One of the most critical challenges facing many rural communities in Nepal today is access to health services.  People in poor communities work hard just to be able to provide food for the family. Taking care of one’s health and going for checkups is a far cry. 

A one-day free health camp was organised to provide medical services to people who are marginalised, living in poverty and far away from access to health services. UMN’s partner Lumbini Christian Samaj (LCS) organised the camp on 22 April at Jagannath Lower Secondary School in Somadiha, Kapilvastu. 

From the total of 520 people that came in for treatment, 132 patients received uterus checkup (with many cases of uterine prolapse), 359 people including 210 female patients received eye checkup and 178 patients including 88 female patients received a general health checkup and treatment.

Doctors from United Mission Hospital Tansen and Lions Eye Hospital assisted to conduct the camp smoothly. In addition, security, social, political leaders, teachers and young people also contributed to the health programme.
