United Mission Hospital Tansen (UMHT) is an acute care hospital with 169 beds which functions at the level of a referral hospital, serving patients from a catchment area of almost one million people.

Services - Hospital and Community-based
Services include emergency, ICU, HDU, general surgery, orthopaedics, paediatrics, obstetrics, gynaecology, internal medicine, urology, burns, dermatology, psychiatry, dental, TB/ Leprosy / HIV clinics and rehabilitation. Also many diagnostic services. In the community, there is a mental health programme, satellite maternal and child health clinics, a child nutrition rehab centre and a maternal waiting home.
Training
Over 200 students a year train in medical professions. The hospital is a practical training site for MDGP resident doctors and has a long history of training medical-related personnel through the Tansen School of Health Science, currently staff nurses and lab technicians. Other training courses such as skilled birth attendant, anaesthesia and counselling take place here regularly. Medical elective students can also take placements at the hospital. Development Projects and Resource Needs
An expansion to the maternity ward and a wastewater treatment scheme are underway, while a major project is planned for a new clinical block which requires substantial funding. There is an ongoing need to subsidise patient treatment for those who cannot afford to pay (Medical Assistance Fund), as well as various equipment needs. Click the links for more details!
