Prayer Points – May 17
Prayer Points – May 17
In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, UMN invites all people of prayer to set aside time daily to ask for God’s help in our work in Nepal. The time suggested for UMN staff is 3.00 pm. For our friends around the world, we ask that you join us either at the equivalent time in your country of 3 pm Nepal time, or whenever you are able. Many have found setting a daily alarm on their phone a useful reminder.
Thank you for your fellowship in prayer.
Joel Hafvenstein

My dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain.
(1 Corinthians 15v58)
We encourage everyone who is praying for UMN not only to raise our requests but to listen to God on UMN’s behalf. Please take time to read this Bible verse slowly to yourself. Pause and ask God to speak through His Word. Then read it slowly again. Settle and calm your mind before you pray.
Major Matters for Prayer
  • UMN has appealed to supporters around the world for financial help to provide greater oxygen supplies to our hospitals and also to clinics and hospitals in our working districts where often the need is critical. Please pray that financial support will come and that we will be able to distribute it quickly to the areas of greatest need.

  • Ramesh Thing, Cluster Team Leader in Rukum, asks prayer for the recovery of COVID patients of Rukum East. The District Hospital has no ICU beds therefore severe COVID patients have to be evacuated by helicopter which is not affordable for all. Most of the hospitals across the country are full of patients and those with severe symptoms have less chances of survival.

  • Pray for healing for the UMN staff who have contracted COVID-19, and for protection for those who have not. Pray for the mental health of all our staff. The Staff Support Group are active in providing opportunity for everyone to share stories of how they are coping, and to offer a listening ear and caring response to any who want to share more confidentially.

  • Pray for vaccines to become available and taken up widely. It will only be when a large proportion of the population is vaccinated that the pandemic will finally be controllable.

  • UMN Board met last week and reviewed the ongoing work. Four members stepped down having completed their term of office, and five new members were present. They will take up their responsibilities in August. Please continue to pray for the work of the Board that the wisdom and experience they offer will bring effective leadership in this time of change. Please continue to pray for Joel and Dhana as they prepare for the handover of responsibilities of Executive Director.
