Trained masons!
Trained masons!

Forty-four local masons were recently trained in earthquake-resistant building construction technology in Bajhang last week. Under UMN’s Disaster Risk Management Project, the one-week training for masons was conducted in collaboration with Thalara Rural Municipality and UMN’s local partner Progressive Youth Society in two locations.

The training was divided into two sessions- knowledge and practical. Knowledge sessions were conducted in classrooms by senior engineers using suitable training methods and practical sessions involved construction work under guidance.

The masons have committed to use the knowledge and skills they have learned and further encourage and make local communities aware of the importance of such structures. Nepal is prone to earthquakes and training as such is not only useful to enhance masonry skills but helpful for the local communities as well.
